It was a soup night! Sooouup night! When the steam starts bubbling from out of the pot When the bread is warm and the soup is hot It's a soup night! Sooouup night! bm D em (bm - f#m) Before I even sat down came a knock on the door-- bm em f#m bm There was a dead man standing on my own front porch. bm D em With a skeletal smile and a gutteral moan, bm D em ... He said, "That soup smells delicious, could I maybe have some?" bm D Well, Granpa taught me, "Never turn a guest away," em f#m But then the next one showed up on eight furry legs, bm D And it started clicking at me from its pincerous mouth, em f#m ... Saying, "I smell something wonderful coming from this house..." bm D So I gave them a nod and I opened the door, em f#m "I'll pour you each a bowl--we've got plenty more!" It's a soup night! Sooouup night. Oh the steam is bubbling from out of the pot! The bread is warm and the soup is hot It's a soup night Sooouup night! It's a soup night Sooouup night! bm D When I got back in the kitchen, nearly shrieked in surprise: em f#m There was a demon manifesting before my own two eyes! bm D It leapt from the steam clean over the stove em f#m Yellin, "Aah Ooh Eee! I think I burned my toe!" bm D I barely had time to get the first aid kit em f#m Before two slime creatures and a ghost slipped in, bm D And after that we had so many guests coming through em f#m I had to ask the werewolf to start serving the soup! At the soup night! Sooouup night! At the soup night! (soup night!) Soouup night! bm D Well, there were bugbears, hobgoblins, spirits, and sprites, em f#m bm There were shadow monsters, boogeypeople, and bumps-in-the-night, bm D They were slitherin' and scurryin' and scufflin' in em f#m They were crawling through the windows and up from the vents, bm D I saw skeletons, banshees, phantoms, and ghouls, em f#m I had to ask the poltergeist to quit bending my spoons! At the soup night! Sooouup night! At the soup night! (Souuup night!!) Sooouup night! bm D Well there were jackalopes, hell-hounds, and skeletal elk, em f#m There was a raven on my mantle and faeries on my shelves, bm D In the shadows lurked a figure with a luminous grin, em f#m bm And I accidentally let a couple vampires in, (for the soup night!) bm D There were gargoyles, moth-people perched on the roof, em f#m Yeah, everybody came to try my Granpa's soup! At the soup night! (Soup night!) Sooouup night! Yeah the steam was bubbling from out of the pot The bread was warm and the soup was hot At the soup night! (Souup night!) Sooouup night! (Soup night!) bm - D - em - f#m / bm - f#m - bm (soup night chanting and growling) bm D They were slurping and chattering and having a ball, em f#m They were sitting on the floor and standing on the wall, bm D I'd never seen so many creatures in my little old house, em f#m And it was well past midnight before they finally cleared out. bm D When everything was finished, there was one bowl left, em f#m And I realized I hadn't even had mine yet! bm D So I plopped down at the table em f#m And I heaved a mighty sigh bm D And I dipped in my last hunk of bread em f#m And cautiously took a bite... bm D It was savory and spicy em f#m A terror and a delight bm D And I finally had my supper em f#m bm On my first soup night.... bm - em - f#m - bm (x2) ~ * ~ * ~ (end credits chords & narration) bm - f#m (I think that's it) So I was just sitting there at home in my castle, Well, I mean my downtown loft apartment. But I was just having a normal evening, Getting ready to feast on some blood. When suddenly this wonderful smell wafted in through my open window. I said, "What is this smell?" And soon I was climbing out of the window, Crawling down the side of the building, Even though my landlady has told me many times not to do that, Because it's "Upsetting to the other tenants" But I could not help myself I had to find what this wonderful smell was. And I followed it halfway across the town To this little old house, And when I knocked on the door, They said those three wonderfull little words... They said, "Come on inside." (chuckling deviously) Don't mind if I do... But no, the soup was very good. I think I'll let them live. Maybe they'll make it again.
